The Antica Vineyard, Block A18

Atlas Peak, Napa Valley

Perched at approximately 1,400 feet above the Napa Valley floor, within a secluded valley in the Vaca Mountain Range’s southeastern reaches, this vineyard boasts rugged terrain reminiscent of Chianti Classico. Marchese Piero Antinori, upon his inaugural ascent into these mountains, was immediately struck by the landscape’s potential, finding echoes of his Tuscan homeland. Envisioning the rocky slopes as a natural amphitheater, with cool ocean breezes and expansive horizons, Antinori recognized a profound opportunity for grape cultivation. Guided by intuition and fueled by passion, he embarked on a journey to harness the vineyard’s inherent terroir, shaping wines imbued with complexity and longevity, reflective of their unique surroundings.

High atop Atlas Peak, within the Antica Vineyard, lies A18 – a cherished block that inspires our Chardonnay. This secluded parcel has been under winemaker Kale Anderson’s care since 2012, when he first discovered its potential during his tenure at Pahlmeyer. Over the years, he has come to know every slope and nuance of A18’s terrain, tending it with a devotion that deepens with each vintage. The Chardonnay drawn from this block is imbued with that intimacy—each bottle a tribute to a site that continually inspires, and a testament to the profound bond between a winemaker and his land.
