The Larry Hyde & Sons Vineyard
Carneros, Napa Valley
Planted in 1979 by Larry Hyde, this vineyard, often described as the confluence of white Burgundy and California, epitomizes a harmonious fusion of Old World elegance and New World vibrancy. Nestled at the eastern edge of Los Carneros, its south by southeast exposure and ancient terraced alluvial fans are complemented by the cooling maritime influence of San Pablo Bay. With Haire Loam Clay soil fostering deep-rooted vines and naturally balancing yields, this site yields concentrated fruit from vines aged between 29 and 45 years old. Larry Hyde’s contributions, including the development of esteemed grape selections like Hyde-Wente Chardonnay and the “Old Wente” and Calera clones, underscore the vineyard’s stature as a vanguard of viticultural excellence in California.
In the Carneros region, Hyde pays homage to a Napa Valley icon who has cultivated its vineyards since the 1970s. Larry Hyde’s influence on the land is legendary, matched only by the character of his signature handlebar mustache. That very emblem now graces our Hyde wine’s label, a playful yet reverent nod to the man behind the vines. This ideogram honors Larry’s enduring impact and personal flair, marking the wine with a touch of his character. In each glass, the Hyde wine carries forward that legacy—rich in personality and rooted in the heritage of an icon who has left an indelible mark on Carneros soil.
