The Vangone Vineyard
Napa Valley
Nestled atop the Silverado Trail overlooking Rector Reservoir, Vangone stands as a captivating vineyard site within Napa Valley. Acquired by Ron and Karen Davidowski in 1993 this land, situated at the base of Haystack Mountain, boasts a unique terroir marked by rocky plateaus and an elevation of 1,672 feet. Once a solitary gem in the region, Vangone now shares its landscape with esteemed vineyards like Haystack and Silver Oak’s Soda Canyon Ranch.
Though not confined to Oakville or Pritchard Hill, Vangone’s distinct positioning lends itself to exceptional viticultural potential. Graced with gravelly, volcanic soils and a southwest-facing orientation, Vangone is meticulously planted with Cabernet Sauvignon. The vineyard focuses on organic farming practices and is certified Napa Green.
The silhouette of a 1960s Volkswagen van adorns Vangone, our Cabernet Sauvignon that tells a story of perseverance on a rugged Napa hillside. The vineyard that births this wine was once deemed unreachable, perched beyond where any road led. It took the resolve of road-builder Ron Davidowski to carve a path up the slope—but only after a rusted-out VW bus blocking the way was hauled off, clearing the route and inspiring the vineyard’s whimsical name. With the van gone, possibility bloomed. Today, Vangone thrives as a tribute to audacity and vision, its every sip a reminder of the journey taken to cultivate excellence against the odds.
